Abstract

This article focuses on a study examining the predictors of grit among students in resource-constrained higher education systems, specifically at Jasikan College of Education in Ghana. Drawing on self-determination theory (SDT), the research found that personality traits such as conscientiousness and openness positively influence grit, while neuroticism also showed an unexpected positive association. Conversely, resilience was found to inversely predict grit, indicating context-specific effects. The study suggests that age and level of study positively relate to grit, whereas the program of study has a negative association, highlighting the need for tailored interventions addressing resilience and personality traits to foster student grit.
