Abstract
This study investigates the association between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and mental health outcomes—specifically depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation—among Omani adults. Using the Adverse Childhood Experience International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ) and the CDC Health Appraisal Questionnaire (HAQ), the cross-sectional study of 1,648 participants found that 88% experienced at least one ACE, with higher ACE levels significantly increasing the odds of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. The findings demonstrate a dose-response relationship, where individuals with four or more ACEs had notably higher risks for these mental health outcomes. The study highlights the need for culturally sensitive early screening, preventive programs, and trauma-informed care to address the enduring impact of ACEs on mental health within Omani society.
