Abstract
A study conducted by researchers at Stanford University investigated how mice make decisions when faced with conflicting needs, such as hunger and thirst. The researchers found that hunger and thirst do not directly motivate a mouse to eat or drink, but instead modulate behavior and influence the mouse's current goal. Neuron activity patterns in the mouse's brain predicted its choice between food and water, even before the options were presented. The researchers also discovered that mice often make the same choice repeatedly before randomly switching, allowing them to fulfill both needs over time. This study sheds light on the brain's shifting baseline state in decision-making and may have implications for understanding human behavior and psychiatric disorders. [Extracted from the article]
