Abstract

This article examines how perceived parenting styles, causal attributions for academic success or failure, and perceived school performance (PSP) influence psychological well-being (PWB) among Brazilian adolescents. The study found that an authoritative parenting style (APS), internal and controllable attributions for academic success/failure (ICASF), and higher PSP each positively predicted adolescents' PWB. Additionally, ICASF partially mediated the relationship between APS and PSP, which in turn contributed to better PWB. These findings underscore the importance of parenting approaches and students' motivational beliefs about academic outcomes in supporting adolescent mental health and suggest avenues for interventions in educational and family contexts.
