Abstract
This article focuses on estimating the prevalence of chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) and central sensitization-related symptoms (CSRS) among Chilean victims of political violence (PV) during the 1973–1990 dictatorship. A cross-sectional study of 325 beneficiaries of the Chilean Ministry of Health’s Program for Reparation and Comprehensive Health Care (PRAIS) found that 69.23% reported CMP, with females showing significantly higher prevalence (76.85%) than males (56.56%). Among those with CMP, 60% exhibited high-level CSRS severity as measured by the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI), with females again more affected. The study highlights that CMP and CSRS are notably prevalent in this population, including indirect victims across generations, and suggests the need for further research into the biological, psychological, and social factors influencing these conditions and their impact on quality of life.
