Abstract

A study conducted at Pusan National University Hospital in Busan, South Korea, found that individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) have higher mu-opioid receptor (MOR) availability in certain brain regions associated with reward processing. The research involved comparing MOR availability, brain glucose uptake, and blood-oxygen-level-dependent signal between AN patients and healthy controls. The study suggests that the endogenous opioid system may play a significant role in AN and could potentially lead to new treatments for the disorder. [Extracted from the article]
