Abstract
This study examined mental health outcomes among Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ex-service members who sought help at the Combat Reaction Unit (CRU), focusing on differences between medics and non-medics, as well as combatants and non-combatants. Analyzing data from 1,474 ex-service members, the study found no substantial mental health differences between medics and non-medics overall; however, non-combat medics exhibited better mental health than other groups but delayed seeking help longer. The findings suggest that combat exposure has a stronger impact on mental health than military profession, and that non-combatants, particularly medics, may be reluctant to access CRU services. Recommendations include improving outreach to non-combatants and enhancing training and support for medics regarding combat-related psychological risks.
