Abstract

The article explores the role of courts in addressing harms caused by social media to encourage safer platform designs, increase transparency and address regulatory gaps. It describes the public health implications of social media use. It discusses U.S. governmental investigations that have led to a rise in lawsuits against social media companies in federal and state courts, as well as the potential use of litigation to drive accountability and reform and improve public health.
