Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the mental health implications of smoking cessation and the transition to e-cigarettes among Korean adults. Conducted by researchers from the Catholic University of Korea, the study analyzed data from 218,921 participants in the 2024 Korea Community Health Survey, assessing mental health outcomes such as depression, suicidal ideation, and sleep quality. Findings indicated that quitters experienced higher odds of adverse mental health outcomes compared to never smokers, while e-cigarette switchers also showed elevated risks. Notably, the odds of negative mental health effects decreased with longer cessation duration for quitters, but e-cigarette switchers did not exhibit a clear trend related to cessation duration.
