Abstract
This book is the third and final volume from the University of Tromsø's project "The Protracted Reformation in Northern Norway," offering a detailed multidisciplinary analysis of the Reformation's long-term effects in Northern Norway, Sweden (including present-day Finland), and parts of Russia. It challenges the notion of the Reformation as a sudden new beginning by examining developments from the Middle Ages through the eighteenth century across three parts: Church and State, Interaction and Network, and Ideas and Images. The volume includes regional case studies on topics such as university roles, witch hunts, missionary networks, Sámi religious practices, and the use of art as a political tool, supported by appendices with chronology and maps. Published in English, the book provides valuable insights for scholars and students interested in the gradual and regionally varied nature of the Reformation in the High North.
