Abstract
The article focuses on the historical development and socio-religious impact of Pentecostalism in Kaduna Metropolis, Nigeria, from 1930 to 1980. It traces Pentecostalism’s emergence during the colonial period through partnerships between Western Pentecostal missionaries and indigenous churches, highlighting its growth amid postcolonial political instability, economic challenges, and social crises. The movement expanded notably via student fellowships and national service programs in Kaduna’s urban and religiously diverse context, offering marginalized groups—especially youths and women—spiritual empowerment and social support. Mainline churches initially responded with containment efforts, but Pentecostalism continued to grow, reshaping Kaduna’s Christian landscape and contributing to ongoing socio-religious transformation.
