Abstract
The article focuses on the characteristics and development of inspiring leadership, identifying three key roles leaders must fulfill: visionary, exemplar, and mentor. Inspiring leaders provide a meaningful, optimistic vision; model calm, courageous, and passionate behavior; and empower and empathize with others to foster growth. These roles address fundamental human needs for purpose, protection, and support, and can be cultivated through reflection, emulation, intention, and practice. Examples include a CEO who navigated the 2009 financial crisis by communicating transparently and empathetically, and academic leadership that upheld institutional values during a crisis. The article emphasizes that leadership effectiveness is dynamic and can be enhanced by deliberate effort in these three dimensions.
