Abstract
This article examines the Zadok Centre in Canberra (1976–1992) as an evangelical Christian response to the social, cultural, and political changes marking the "end" of Christendom in Australia. Established by evangelical organizations Scripture Union and the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES), Zadok aimed to study contemporary Australian culture, provide theological reflection accessible to laypeople, and equip Christians for engagement in a pluralistic society. Its activities included publications, conferences, and programs addressing themes such as public policy, vocational ethics, economics, everyday theology, and Indigenous issues, notably through the influential work of its directors and contributors. Despite limited resources and institutional tensions, Zadok made significant contributions to contextual theology and public discourse, including award-winning publications and an ABC television series, before relocating to Melbourne in 1992.
