Abstract

The article focuses on the design and installation of a new cathedral-sized Harrison & Harrison organ at Christ Church in Greenwich, Connecticut, notable for its 81 ranks and English cathedral tradition style. This single instrument replaces two earlier organs and features a carefully planned spatial layout with cases on both sides of the choir stalls, balancing open and enclosed tonal qualities to suit the church's dry acoustics. The organ's stop list and tonal design emphasize accompaniment and flexibility, with orchestral stops and divided shutters allowing nuanced control of sound direction and character. Despite some challenges in blending certain tonal registers, the instrument achieves a dignified grandeur without overwhelming volume, making it well-suited for choral support and congregational singing.
