Abstract

This article focuses on research from the University of Warsaw examining the Commandment of Love, a central ethical principle in Christianity, through psychological and moral perspectives. The study distinguishes three approaches to understanding its adoption: a top-down approach and two bottom-up approaches—logical and psychological—with emphasis on the psychological bottom-up approach. This approach is supported by scriptural evidence and aligns with natural moral mechanisms identified by social psychology and evolutionary biology, suggesting that an innate moral sense underlies recognition and internalization of the Commandment of Love, enhanced by a person’s love for God. The research concludes that disciplines such as psychology, biology, and anthropology serve as auxiliary fields to moral theology in this context. [Extracted from the article]
