Abstract
The article focuses on the Christian liturgical season of Advent, emphasizing its dual significance in remembering the birth of Christ and anticipating His future return, known as the Second Coming or Parousia. It explores how early Christians lived with an urgent expectation of Christ’s imminent return, which shaped their priorities and actions, contrasting this with contemporary society’s materialism and complacency. The article suggests that modern believers can rediscover a sense of hopeful anticipation that challenges consumerism and false pragmatism, encouraging active, justice-oriented living. It also proposes a broader understanding of the Second Coming as Christ’s presence within individuals’ hearts, transforming lives and the world. The reflection concludes by urging readers to consider how awareness of life’s finitude might inspire readiness for Christ’s return.
