Abstract
This article focuses on addressing reductionism in bioethics and medicine through a phenomenological approach, emphasizing the qualitative experience of well-being known as eudaimonia, or flourishing. It critiques the tendency in medicine and philosophy to reduce well-being to measurable bodily or mental functions, arguing instead for attention to the lived, embodied experience of feeling well. The article highlights contributions exploring topics such as the disruption of self in illness, the phenomenology of pregnancy, the reification of patients in medical practice, and the emotional impact of environmental changes, all underscoring the importance of empathy and the relational, embodied nature of health. Phenomenology is presented as a methodological tool to deepen understanding of patient experiences and to foster collaboration between philosophy and medicine in bioethics.
