Abstract

The article focuses on the publication of a comprehensive translation and edition of the works of Camilla Battista da Varano, a Franciscan abbess and mystic, now available in English. Varano, who lived from 1458 to 1524, was educated in humanism and became known for her religious writings, which include autobiographical texts, devotional works, and treatises. The volume, edited and translated by William V. Hudon, features a detailed introduction that contextualizes Varano's life and works, as well as extensive footnotes that clarify her references and enhance understanding of her unique narrative voice. This edition serves as a significant resource for scholars and readers interested in the devotional literature and mysticism of early modern Italy. [Extracted from the article]
