Abstract

Archaeologists have discovered an underground tomb in the ancient city of Oxyrhynchus, Egypt, containing two stone sarcophagi with the mummies of a man and a woman. The bodies were adorned with multicolored plaster-and-linen cartonnage, including a neckpiece featuring the head of the Egyptian god Horus. Terracotta statuettes depicting a foliage-crowned Isis-Aphrodite, a combination of the Egyptian goddess Isis and the Greek deity Aphrodite, were also found. In a nearby necropolis, over 20 mummies were found in Roman-era tombs, along with seals, a gold mask, and papyri with Greek magical texts.
