Abstract

This article advances a glut-theoretic response to the logical problem of evil, arguing that contradictions (gluts)—statements both true and false—are relevant to understanding traditional monotheistic omni-properties, specifically God's omnipotence and omniscience. The author proposes that while God's omnibenevolence remains simply true, omnipotence and omniscience are glutty, which disrupts the usual entailment that God's existence and the presence of evil cannot coexist. This "falsity's filtering effect" means that the apparent contradiction between God's omni-properties and evil does not logically entail God's nonexistence or the nonexistence of evil. The paper does not aim to defend theism apologetically but to show that glut-theoretic accounts offer a natural and conservative framework for addressing the problem of evil within theology.
