Abstract
The article discusses the formation and early advocacy of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) to resist the U.S. government's Termination policy and protect tribal sovereignty. Topics include the historical context and threats posed by Termination, the strategic organizing and advocacy efforts by NCAI leaders to preserve Native nations, and the ongoing role of intertribal organizations and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium in supporting tribal colleges today.
