Abstract
The article focuses on the complex security and political challenges Pakistan faces in its northwestern border region, formerly known as the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), which was merged into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in 2018. Historically marked by colonial-era laws, militancy, and governance issues, this region has been a stronghold for militant groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (T.T.P.), contributing to ongoing violence and instability. The Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021 has intensified terrorist attacks in Pakistan, leading to a significant rise in fatalities and placing the country among those most affected by terrorism. Despite efforts to integrate FATA into Pakistan's mainstream political and legal framework to improve security and development, persistent socio-economic struggles, political unrest, and militant resistance continue to challenge peace and stability in the region.
