Abstract
The article discusses the 17th century Exclusion Crisis involving heir presumptive James, then Duke of York and brother of King Charles II of England. Topics explored include the concerns raised over the conversion of James to Catholicism in 1670, the refusal of James to comply with the legal requirements of the Test Act of 1673 such as receiving communion in accordance to the Anglican Church, and the recognition of James as rightful heir and his succession to the throne in 1685.
