The Impact of Knowledge Sharing on Virtual Communities of Higher Education Sector.

The primary purpose of this paper is to explore the factors influencing knowledge sharing (KS) and their impact on virtual communities within the higher education sector. A model was developed to measure this impact, adapting constructs from previous studies to suit the objectives of this research. Recognising the need for a platform that integrates and supports educational activities through a knowledge-sharing approach, this study gathered data using a convenient sampling method involving more than 400 students from both private and public universities. A structured questionnaire was employed for data collection. Findings indicate that university students recognise the value of information, and the establishment of virtual communities serves as a gateway to enhance motivation and address barriers, thereby streamlining the knowledge-sharing process. By leveraging technology alongside a strategic knowledge-sharing approach, universities can foster systems and mindsets that facilitate timely dissemination of information. In environments where new technologies are rapidly adopted and innovated, students can significantly improve their academic performance. KS also reinforces the concept of lifelong learning by expanding expertise, broadening knowledge, and creating opportunities for academic advancement.
