Abstract

The article focuses on the rise of lies and the erosion of shame in society. Topics include the evolutionary origins of lying; the difficulty of detecting lies and various motives behind lying; and the consequences for dishonesty. It also highlights a case of a politician, George Santos, who fabricated multiple aspects of his life without facing serious consequences, pointing to a decline in societal norms that once held liars accountable.
