Abstract
This article explores the role of Emotional Integration (EI), a form of emotion regulation defined within Self-Determination Theory (SDT), in Christian spiritual formation. EI involves a curious and accepting awareness of one’s emotions to understand underlying values and goals, guiding actions aligned with God’s will. The article reviews empirical evidence linking EI to enhanced well-being, moral character, and interpersonal relationships, and examines its presence in the emotional nature of God, the character of Jesus Christ, and Psalm 42. It concludes with practical implications for Christian ministers, teachers, and counselors to incorporate EI and related spiritual disciplines, such as meditation and prayer, into spiritual formation practices.
