Abstract

The article focuses on how the concept of executive presence (EP)—traditionally defined by gravitas, communication skills, and appearance—has evolved in response to recent social, economic, and technological changes. New research comparing surveys from 2012 and 2022 reveals that while confidence and decisiveness remain central to gravitas, inclusiveness, respect for others, and authenticity have become increasingly important across all EP dimensions. The article highlights practical strategies for leaders to develop these traits, emphasizing the need to balance polished professionalism with genuine inclusivity and adaptability in both virtual and in-person settings. Examples from diverse executives illustrate how embracing these evolving expectations can enhance leadership effectiveness and organizational success.
