Abstract

True to his proleptic argument, Stewart hears in their voices the "reversible rhythm" ushered in by Enlightenment poetry, which offered a "privileged encounter with futurity ... of life after death" (5). Dustin Stewart's I Futures of Enlightenment Poetry i begins its argument on its cover: William Blake's I Christ Refusing the Banquet i , watercolor design no. 6 for Milton's I Paradise Regained i . Milton leaned Arian, but with an interest in Biddle's Socinian narrative, which makes the son a great student, or disciple, who received heavenly instruction from God in a "pre-ascension ascension" during which he studied directly with the master, as Milton's Jesus does in I Paradise Regained i .
