Abstract

The article focuses on the historical development, doctrinal evolution, and socio-cultural impact of the African Church in Isokoland, South-Central Nigeria, from 1921 to 2021. It traces the church's origins as an indigenous Christian denomination formed in response to European missionary dominance, highlighting its efforts to reconcile African cultural values with Christian doctrine amid doctrinal conflicts, including issues such as polygamy and ancestral worship. The study examines how the African Church influenced Isoko culture by challenging traditional religious practices, promoting monotheism, education, healthcare, and social justice, while also facing resistance and competition from other denominations. The church's centenary in 2021 serves as a reflective milestone illustrating its resilience, adaptability, and continuing role in shaping the spiritual and social fabric of the Isoko community.
