Abstract

The article in the Archaeology journal discusses the ancient Egyptian deity Bes, who was known for protecting homes, mothers, children, and bringing joy. Archaeologists have recently analyzed a ceramic vessel shaped like Bes' head and found it contained a complex liquid concoction used in a ritual practice. The concoction included plants with psychotropic properties, bodily fluids like breast milk, and a mixture of beer, wine, honey, sesame seeds, pine nuts, and licorice. This discovery sheds light on the religious and magical practices of ancient Egyptian civilization. [Extracted from the article]
