Abstract

The article focuses on the legendary tale of the Goddess of Snow Poli'ahu and the Goddess of Fire Madame Pele who are associated with the snow-covered volcanic mountains of Hawaii. Topics include their story of competition in games of chance and skill, the history of the sacred temples dedicated to them, and the biodiversity of marine molluscs that evolved on the islands introducing two species of nudibranchs that are named after these goddesses.
