Abstract

Seamus Mac Mathuna's book, "Ireland and the Immrama: An Enquiry into Irish Influence on Old Norse-Icelandic Voyage Literature," fills a gap in the study of immrama, or sea-voyages, in early Irish literature. The book consists of an introduction, six chapters, a conclusion, and a bibliography, providing a comprehensive analysis of the subject. Mac Mathuna explores the connections between Irish and Icelandic literature, examining the influence of Irish stories on Icelandic tales such as Þorsteins þáttr bæjarmagns and Snorri Sturluson's Gylfaginning. He also considers the influence of Classical and Christian literature on the narrative motifs and patterns found in Icelandic fornaldarsögur. [Extracted from the article]
