Abstract
The article explores how the biblical Book of Jonah parallels the experience of addiction, highlighting themes of running from responsibility, denial, crisis, surrender, and redemption. It emphasizes that addiction is not merely a physical or emotional issue but a spiritual crisis, and it calls on churches to move beyond avoidance and judgment toward compassionate, long-term support modeled on the repentance of Nineveh and the grace shown by Jesus. Practical guidance is offered for faith communities to create recovery-friendly ministries, normalize testimonies, disciple the whole person, and maintain presence with those struggling, underscoring that addiction recovery is a mission the Church is uniquely positioned to embrace. The narrative stresses that no one is beyond God's mercy and that the Church can lead in restoration by embodying grace rather than condemnation.
