Abstract
The article focuses on the role of procedural metacognition in inferential transitions, proposing that an epistemic feeling of reliability helps explain why certain conclusions seem to follow from premises. Topics include the debate between first-order and second-order accounts of inference, the role of metacognitive feelings in distinguishing valid reasoning from mere associative thought, and how these feelings contribute to epistemic justification without requiring reflective awareness.
