Abstract

The article focuses on the early actions and messages of Pope Francis following his election, emphasizing his commitment to humility, compassion, and outreach to marginalized communities. He chose the name Francis after St. Francis of Assisi, symbolizing his dedication to the poor and the environment. Notably, he broke with tradition by washing the feet of child prisoners during Holy Week and made a significant pastoral visit to Lampedusa to highlight the plight of asylum seekers. Through these actions, he aimed to challenge societal indifference and promote a Church that prioritizes the needs of those on the peripheries. [Extracted from the article]
