Abstract
This article analyzes how the Spanish radical-right party Vox strategically employs the term "anti-Semitism" to discredit the political left in Spain, particularly in the context of the Israel–Hamas conflict between October 2023 and July 2024. Through critical discourse analysis of parliamentary debates and articles from La Gaceta de la Iberosfera, a Vox-affiliated publication, the study finds that Vox portrays the left as aligned with Islamist terrorism and anti-Semitism by linking leftist support for Palestine and use of phrases like "From the river to the sea" to extremist groups. Vox's discourse redefines anti-Semitism as a floating signifier detached from its traditional association with far-right ideology, using it rhetorically to bolster its own image while undermining opponents. The article concludes that this weaponization risks weakening genuine efforts to combat anti-Semitism and stifles critical debate on Israeli policies and Palestinian rights.
