Abstract

Researchers at La Trobe University in Australia conducted a qualitative study on the experiences of sexually and gender diverse Christians in Australia. The study identified six themes related to how these individuals navigate their identities, including the influence of childhood experiences, negative religious messaging, and the importance of affirming congregations. The research highlights the detrimental effects of hostile religious messaging and the positive impact of supportive environments on the well-being of sexually and gender diverse individuals. The study introduces the Religious-SGM Identity Management Model to explain the factors influencing identity management strategies. [Extracted from the article]
