Abstract

"The Parliamentary Battle Over Brexit" by Meg Russell and Lisa James is a comprehensive book that examines the role of Parliament during the Brexit process from 2016 to 2020. The authors challenge established narratives and highlight the unintended consequences of political actions. They criticize former Prime Minister Theresa May for her rigidity and failure to navigate party divides effectively. The book also explores the debates surrounding parliamentary sovereignty and the different interpretations of what it means. Overall, the authors argue that the lack of planning for a leave vote and the divisive nature of politics hindered the ability to find compromises and shape the Brexit process.
