Abstract

A shooting occurred at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, when Genesse Ivonne Moreno entered the church with her 7-year-old son and opened fire. Moreno was armed with an AR15-style rifle and a .22-caliber rifle, and she claimed to have a bomb. Two off-duty police officers working as security at the church engaged in a shootout with Moreno, resulting in her death. Moreno's son was critically injured and another man was shot in the leg. The motive for the shooting is unclear, but Moreno had a history of mental illness and was involved in a dispute with her ex-husband and his family. The incident occurred between services when the church was not fully occupied. Joel Osteen expressed his condolences and stated that the church community was devastated. [Extracted from the article]
