Abstract

A study conducted by Universidad del Sinu in Monteria, Colombia, focused on the relationship between ikigai (purpose in life), resilience, loneliness, negative emotions (anxiety, depression, stress), and quality of life in older adults of Afro-descendant and Amerindian descent in a rural area of Cordoba, Colombia. The research found that despite facing economic, social, and educational inequalities, the older adults in the study reported a favorable state of resilience, life purpose, and acceptable quality of life. The study used non-experimental, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional design with a sample of 100 older adults. The findings indicated positive correlations between resilience, life purpose, and quality of life, as well as negative correlations between anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, and quality of life in this population.
