Abstract

The article focuses on the development of forensic science in China after 1949, particularly highlighting the significant contributions of women, exemplified by fingerprint expert Ma Jianhua. Following the establishment of the People's Republic of China, efforts were made to train specialists in forensic disciplines, which saw an increase in women's participation, especially during the post-Mao economic reforms. Despite facing systemic sexism and challenges within a male-dominated field, women like Ma Jianhua gained recognition for their expertise and contributions to forensic science, although narratives often celebrate their achievements while downplaying the sexism they encountered. The article concludes by emphasizing the ongoing gender disparities in forensic science and the evolving role of women in this field. [Extracted from the article]
