Abstract

This article provides information about toads and dispels the misconception that touching them can cause warts. Toads actually have colorful bumps called parotoid glands, which secrete bufotoxin as a defense mechanism. The toxins can cause a sensation similar to urination when handled, but garter snakes are immune to them. The article also discusses the unique characteristics and breeding habits of American toads, including their ability to change skin shade for camouflage. It emphasizes the importance of conserving toad tadpoles and suggests creating suitable habitats in gardens to control pests. [Extracted from the article]
