Abstract

This study focuses on the epidemiology and causes of burn injuries among adult females aged 25–64 in southern Iran, based on data from two major burn centers between 2007 and 2022. Among 1,499 female inpatients analyzed, flame burns were the most common mechanism (59.7%), predominantly occurring indoors and affecting women with lower educational levels living in rural areas. The average Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burned was 41.1%, with a mortality rate of 39.1%; multivariate analysis identified higher TBSA%, indoor injury location, flame and flush burns, and urban residence as significant risk factors for mortality. The study highlights the need for targeted burn prevention programs and increased public education, especially for vulnerable rural women, to reduce burn incidence and mortality.
