Abstract
Steel slag reaction experiments were conducted, and FactSage macro editing was applied to study the reaction kinetics of medium- and high-basicity refining slag with SWRS82B steel. Changes in the composition of the molten steel and inclusions were observed and simulated. The experimental results indicated that the oxygen and sulfur contents in SWRS82B steel decreased rapidly during the first 5 min of the refining process, and then changed slightly. The variation law of the calculated results based on FactSage was consistent with the experimental results. The number of inclusions was observed decreased from 27 pcs/mm2 to 18–19 pcs/mm2 and their average size reduced from 3.51 Î m to 2.59–2.49 Î m during refining process. The simulated results based on FactSage macro editing indicate that the total mass of inclusions in SWRS82B steel decreased, and the mass of inclusions tended to be stable after 20 min of reaction, which is in good agreement with the experimental results. The simulated reaction kinetics indicate that there were three types of inclusions in the two heats of the steels: i.e., CaMg2Al16O27(s) and Al2O3(s). The liquid inclusions and inclusions were transformed as follows: Al2O3(s)â CaMg2Al16O27(s)â liquid inclusions. The changes in the composition of the inclusions refined by these slags during the entire refining process were simulated using FactSage software and were almost consistent with the experimental results.
