Abstract

The article focuses on improving research methodologies in human body composition assessment related to gut microbiota and obesity. It critiques the reliance on body fat percentage due to its methodological limitations and suggests using the sum of skinfolds in absolute values for more accurate evaluation of adipose tissue changes. Additionally, it recommends assessing body proportionality and abdominal obesity through the waist-to-stature ratio, rather than waist-to-hip ratio, to better interpret metabolic risk and body composition changes. These suggestions aim to enhance the clinical applicability and interpretation of studies investigating the relationship between intermittent fasting protocols, intestinal microbiota, and body composition in obese individuals.
