Abstract

This article examines a study on the use of generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, in team-based creative problem-solving within four companies across Europe and the United States. The research found that AI-assisted teams produced only modestly more ideas than control groups and did not generate higher-quality solutions overall, despite gaining greater confidence in their problem-solving abilities. Key recommendations for effective use of generative AI include defining precise problem statements, allowing individual brainstorming before AI interaction, rigorously training the AI with relevant data, engaging in iterative conversations with the tool, and involving an external facilitator in decision-making. The findings highlight that successful integration of generative AI requires rethinking workflows and developing new skills to harness its potential as a collaborative partner rather than an infallible oracle.
