Abstract

This article focuses on research from Zhengzhou, People's Republic of China, examining the mental health benefits of national forest parks as natural ecosystems with therapeutic potential. Using structural equation modeling and a 2025 survey of 618 Lanzhou residents, the study found that perceptions of naturalness, health facilities, service quality, and tranquility in forest parks significantly predicted psychological wellbeing, with forest therapy participation acting as a key mediator. The research highlighted that individuals experiencing high stress gained substantially greater mental health benefits from these environments. The findings suggest that enhancing ecological restoration, sensory tranquility, and health-promoting infrastructure in forest parks could improve urban mental health outcomes.
