Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of nursing interventions delivered through home visits on the rational use of medicines (RUM) and awareness among elderly individuals aged 65 and older living in a rural area of Türkiye. Using a prospective randomized controlled design with 74 participants, the intervention group received education, counseling, brochures, and pill boxes, while the control group received no intervention during the study. Results showed significant increases in both RUM and awareness scores in the intervention group compared to controls, indicating that nursing-led home visits effectively improved medication use and related awareness. The study recommends periodic educational sessions and regular nurse home visits to sustain RUM among elderly populations, particularly in rural settings.
