Abstract
The article focuses on the detection of hexavalent chromium, a toxic metal linked to lung cancer, in air samples following wildfires in Los Angeles that occurred in January. Researchers from the University of California, Davis found levels of hexavalent chromium over 200 times higher than typical in the area, raising concerns about potential health risks, particularly due to the small size of the particles that can enter the bloodstream. While the South Coast Air Quality Management District cautioned against immediate health risk conclusions, ongoing research aims to monitor chromium levels in the environment and in residents' bodies.
