Abstract

The article focuses on discussions at the Second Africa Climate Summit regarding climate finance and African-led solutions ahead of the COP30 negotiations. Panelists emphasized the need to reform the global financial system, which is described as fragmented, slow, risk-averse, and misaligned with Africa's priorities, to better support adaptation and loss and damage funding for vulnerable developing countries. The creation of the Loss and Damage Fund at COP27 and subsequent financial pledges were highlighted as significant progress. African leaders expressed a desire for the continent to play a leading role in setting the global climate agenda, underscoring the importance of maintaining momentum toward a greener and more prosperous Africa.
